New data highlighting the ways California’s oil and gas industry are essential to our state’s economy are in a newly released report from the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), titled “Oil and Gas in California: The Industry, Its Economic Contribution and Major User Industries.” Pulling from the most recent data available in 2022, the report quantifies the jobs, tax revenue, and economic activity of the industry in California, as well as broken out in four sub-regions: Southern California, San Francisco Bay Area, Central Coast, and San Joaquin Valley.
Report highlights include:
- 536,770 jobs in California are supported by the oil and gas industry. That’s enough people to fill both NFL stadiums in California almost 4 times.
- $338 billion was the industry’s total economic contribution to California’s economy in 2022.
- $64.3 billion was contributed in local, state, and federal tax revenue to support schools, roads, public safety and other vital services.
